Review - Black Knight 2000 'Black Knight 2000 - He Rides Again!'
Released in 1989 by Williams Electronics
Theme: Historical - Knights
Notable Features: Flippers (3), Pop bumpers (3), Ramps (2), 3-bank drop-targets (2), Vertical Up-kicker (1), Kick-out hole (1), Split-level playfield, Horseshoe lane, Magna-save, Kickback. Hitting the three targets on the drawbridge lowers the drawbridge, providing access to the skyway ramp. Can we honestly call this a sequel?
BK2000 is the follow-up to the highly successful Williams pinball 'Black Knight' which had a production run of over 13,000 units and was released back in 1980.
BK2000 comes to us 9 years later but 2 things are ever present, the upper playfield and the 'magna-save'.
It has a similar play style to the first table also but of course there are many brilliant new enhancements.
When you press start you hear 'I AM THE BLACK KNIGHT'- all the speech in the game was done by Steve Ritchie. The game itself also has a great soundtrack, that keeps the pulse racing as the ball flies around the table.
The upper playfield has 3 pop bumpers, a ramp which I find almost impossible to hit and the 3 WAR targets which are basically bonus multipliers - they also light the skyway hurry up sequence.
There are so many features on this table it'd be impossible to list them all in a mini review so suffice to say that BK2000 is a worthy sequel to the original, and my best score...well after 3 games I managed a best score of 739,370.
If you cant get access to the real thing, dont forget there's the brilliant Visual Pinball emulator and most tables are available for free download from www.vpforums.org
