1 The Girl from Ant Attack
THE original. Why? Ant Attack was a game that was - at its heart - a love story. Either you were a tiny pixel man rescuing your sweetheart from Antescher City, or you were the girl herself rescuing her beau.
With no difference between the two characters, you could argue that this is an early case of female empowerment in gaming, but there is something else for which The Girl will be fondly remembered. The Girl was the first female character to have jiggle physics. Without The Girl, we wouldn't have Team Ninja, and all their lovely jubbly-based games.
Vixen (sexy warrior with a whip), Papergirl (from Paperboy2), Jill of the Jungle (PC DOS) - but why when she lands after a jump it sounds like an Earthquake.
