They don't make 'em like they used to (thank Christ).

Ninja Terminator, 1985: You know when a fly continually bashes its head against the window until it's dead? That's what Ninja Terminator writer and director Godfrey Ho did as he attempted to break into Hollywood. Releasing dozens of films under dozens of different aliases, Ho just couldn't get himself into Tinsel Town. Here's why. (By the way, I love this film).
Arena, 1989: The budget was slightly higher than usual for this kind of film, but that didn't stop the producers scrimping on the trailer. An answer to the growing desire for one-on-one fighting games, Arena made a solid attempt at bringing a coin-op to life. It failed, in the end, but it was a valiant effort.
The Stuff, 1985: Box art was a big part of selling a film from the video shop shelves, and The Stuff (rather ironically) fed into the hunger for gore that permeated home video - mostly thanks to Mary Whitehouse and her thought police. Admittedly it wasn't quite so gruesome and scary when seen in full, but the trailer sold it well, and that's what our feature is all about.
Got your own favourite cheeseball trailers from the VHS player of yesteryear? We'd love to hear about them in the comments below.
By the way. How come we never see these b-movie classics on the telly? That's what I want to know.
Hehe..I used to love watching all the old trailers too! And the films when possible...stuff like Star Crash,The Thing With Two Heads and The Gate were awesome...
The 80s, a true graveyard of cheese and onion horror/sci fi - all genius: Arena, Deepstar Six, Leviathan, Brain Damage (a personal fave), Evil Dead II, Class of 1999, That moon/bermuda triangle film with Chekov out of star trek in, Of unkown origin (a craptacula rat attack film with Peter 'robocop' Weller in), there are too many to list here and I love them all
I'm sorry but this article WILL NOT get a 10 rating from me UNLESS the mighty C.H.U.D trailer is included http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WqDToaLuJ7I it is the single greatest trailer of all time! Just how many times can you get the word CHUD into 1m34s??? total aceness! The film is awesome too
