I WANNA BE THE GUY!
The hardest game ever, reviewed!

Posted by bedroomcoder on Aug 10, 2010 21:03 (Aug 10, 2010 21:03)

I have been playing I Wanna Be The Guy a lot lately. What's I Wanna Be The Guy? It's a retro-styled platform game, probably the hardest one ever made. It's got elements from lots of classic 8-bit games, like Punch-Out, Megaman, Duck Shoot and Castlevania.

From the author's own website:

"I Wanna Be The Guy: The Movie: The Game is a sardonic loveletter to the halcyon days of early American videogaming, packaged as a nail-rippingly difficult platform adventure. Players fill the role of The Kid, a youthful, vaguely Megaman-esque protagonist on a quest to become The Guy. This inscrutable plot, however, is just a vehicle for a wide variety of inventive, well-designed and frustrating jump-and-shoot challenges that pay homage to many of the games you loved as a child. The ever-fragile Kid explodes in a shower of red pixels at the slightest brush from the game's many obstacles, from traditional spikes and bottomless pits to more unconventional killers, such as plantlife and puzzle pieces. "

It's a brutal, punishing challenge, and you'll need every save you can reach. But what makes it special is the level of detail and inventiveness that goes into the multitude of brain-melting traps and puzzles you will face.

If you thought Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts was hard, then this really isn't for you. However if you eat thunder and crap lightning and fancy going toe-to-toe with one of the hardest games of all time, give it a go.

P.S - I am making a fangame of I Wanna Be The Guy. Check back at Retrofusion and I'll let you know when it's done!
