I recently submitted my third film to this site. Classic Games Crusade - Ste Pickford was a pleasure to make. A gentleman recently commented on Retro Fusion's website that it sounds as if it was recorded in a wind tunnel, though he said he enjoyed the film. Well this was not the fault of the film crew but was because Boyo insisted on holding this event within a canvas tent nailed to the mast of a giant wind turbine towering over the A127.

There has also been questions about why the film ends so quickly. Well this is because while we were filming a drunken and disorderly editor of a popular retro games magazine took all his clothes off and sprinted up and down the room (mainly in front of Ste, Paul and the camera crew) making a woo woo police siren noise, he then put his bloodshot eyes right up to the camera lens and cried 'do you wanna grab me kempston!' before runnibg at high speed in 180 circuits of the room sending precious hardware flying everywhere. Eventually after much shouting and general unrest he was rendered unconcious with a blow to the head thanks to David Doak's Wild Turkey Whiskey bottle! Great footage but I just felt during thr edit that it might take away from Ste's insightful story on coding for the snes...I'm sure you'd all agree. Also Boyo has pleaded with me by saying 'Classic, keep this site clean with no f**king swearing or nudity',.

There are many films like this to come, all free to watch. If you like then all we ask is you spread the word because the better this great site does, then the more great material we can produce. So rack your brains for anyone that is interested in Retro Gaming, make them watch these films so they begin to understand how the biggest entertainment industry in the world was built. If they claim they don't like retro gaming then ignore what they say and persuade them somehow...use your imagination...or a brickbat...whichever comes more naturally.

What is next I hear none of you ask? Well you already have 'Sandy White', 'The story of Newsfield Publications', and now 'Ste Pickford'. Well there's lots, starting with 'Archer Maclean' closely followed by 'Martin Hollis' and the making of Goldeneye which includes some wonderful insights into how to get the most out of executing David Doak when playing Rare's classic game.

This will be closely followed by a documentary on 8 bit chiptuners such as Rob Hubbard, Ben Dalglish, Martin Galway, Mark Cooksey and Mark Knight to name a few. After that I have a developers round table planned...but more on that another time.

I'm going to try and post some musings each week so keep and eye out, also join my facebook group 'Classic Games Crusader' or friend me as 'classic gamer also on Facebook for loads more info on free films.

Someone wrote to me recently saying (amongst other things) 'old games are shit...so why bother?' Now I must confess I wrote a very long, insightful reply, justifying how the very essence of game playing...to have fun, transends whether a game is old or new. The games industry has reached an age now, (nearly 40 years old) when it has a history long enough to regard and properly review, just like film fans regarding older films as classic 'Citizen Kane' etc.

On one side this means we could all sit in highbacked leather chairs, smoking cigars and swilling brandy while discussing the creative merits and impact behind '3D Deathchase', or on the other hand maybe we all just like to play games. As we experienced older games in our youth perhaps there is an element of nostalgia that fuels the interest...maybe. For me I just like the simplicity of picking something up for 10 minutes and playing..and that's about it. So I never bothered answering that message, I thought it best to let him enjoy what he considers are good games...modern games, to be honest I couldn't be bothered to put in the effort. Though I would add, regardless of whether we like old games more than new, I think we should aways be prepared to be surpised by what is coming out today, otherwise it makes us as closed minded as someone refusing to get past the graphics of an older game.

Until next week!
