IT'S GONE A LITTLE COLD... Posted by boyo on Nov 26, 2010 11:47 (Nov 26, 2010 11:47) |
The site has gone through a bit of a lull of late – but that is not to say that it has closed or gone into hibernation for the winter. Life sometimes gets in the way of the things you really want to do – but retro runs through my veins and is always there and the site will continue to be updated. New visitors have shown interest in writing for Fusion and it is these individuals who will ensure the site continues to flourish with new fresh content from a different perspective. I went to the R3play event last month in Blackpool. As many of those who visit the site might know, I have hosted three gaming events in the past, the first was back in December 2005 – it’s pretty amazing to think that five years has trundled by since then. When I walked into the main room of the venue, close to the Blackpool sea front, my jaw literally hit the floor. The amount of effort that must have gone into creating a modern day realisation of a seaside arcade of the past must have been immense. Rows of arcade and pinball machines; console upon console from gaming past; competitions, celebrities and a welcoming, warm friendly atmosphere. There have been many accounts and reviews of the R3play weekend event scattered across the many retro sites populating the internet, another one on this site is unnecessary. Suffice to say though that a new benchmark for events of this kind has been set and I for one am truly looking forward to R3play 2. I bumped into many an individual in Blackpool that I have met over the years. I’m normally rubbish at remembering names, but for some bizarre reason I always seem to remember forum aliases. So shouting out “Toxie”, “Hawk”, “AlienMame” or “Antiriad” just seemed normal when in the presence of my virtual friends - until that is you get the odd look from a local. Playing 2-player retro games like Sensible Soccer and Doom over serial link brought these old games back to life again. And so to the present…with Christmas looming, it will be a good opportunity to look back at many of the Christmas related games of years gone past, and this will happen with our 12 retro games of Christmas at the start of December. I have many a gaming hero lined up for interview including Martyn Brown (Team 17), Charles Cecil, Jez San and Nolan Bushnell. If you would like to help interview these iconic people then get in touch. And weirdly, I am coding BASIC again albeit on the I-Pad (with keyboard attached) and I will look to cover this in a little feature. Thanks for your continued support by the way – even without regular updated lately the site has been getting over 300 hits a day. Chris. Retro Fusion Editor |
