KIDS GAMES - NOT THAT BAD....REALLY! Posted by koopa42 on Aug 3, 2011 13:16 (Aug 3, 2011 13:16) |
Well my youngest is now over 2 and I won't play the likes of Fallout and Crysis 2 in front of him - I stopped a while back but when I was playing the other day I blew up some robot and heard a little voice say 'awwww poor man' LOL. No, I'm not one of the scare mongering lot but personally I'm not comfortable dismembering ghouls or choking the life out of aliens in glorious 42" HD while he's about. So, just what can I play when he's pottering about.............. I've never really bothered with 'kiddie' titles and honestly wouldn't expect much from them anyway; however it would appear I may have been a bit wrong. No, I don't mean the likes of Viva Pinata or the Lego *insert franchise here* titles you know the games that can appeal to adults and usually have high production values. I mean stone cold kiddie titles, the ones usually affiliated with kiddie films – Toy Story, Planet 51, Cloudy with Meatballs, Up among others. I borrowed a couple from my nephew just to play when minikoopa was watching and was pleasantly surprised to find the odd ‘good’ game (as well as the odd trash game – I’d say it was a 50/50 split LOL). ![]() Toy Story was excellent fun, a 3D platformer with minigames/races thrown in for good measure; it also had the old collectables/star missions for OCD types (such as me). But then I played Cloudy with meatballs – probably the worst 360 game I have ever played and definitely one for the gamescore crowd, I maxed it in less than an evening and it was choresome. My missus is currently playing through Plant 51 and it seems above average (not as good as Toy Story was), again mostly minigames based on races etc but all good fun and no decapitations (so far LOL) So there is a 50/50 split already but already when I do my usual visit to the game stores I now have a quick look at the kiddie stuff, usually cheap as chips and maybe just maybe the odd hidden gem of a ‘good’ game? I’d buy that for a dollar. Generally they are all based on the same template but some do have nice little additions. It reminded me that you can get a good family game like the days of Mariokart and Yoshi etc………..of course poking the eyes out of zombies or smashing someone in the face with a riot shield also has its charms. Anybody have any other family titles they can suggest? |
