Quote: From koopa42 on 2010-08-11 23:07:58 Got mine today. I like the look (or do I? I'm undecided - I reminds me of a coffee machine), I like the 250gb HD, I don't like the fact the HD is different so I can't use it on other 360s (I take my HD to mum's to play on stepdad's 360 while they spend time with my little 'un). However, the full DRM license transfer was NOT the horror I was lead to believe, it took about 2 hours (it would be even quicker for someone who can be online and on live at the same time) in total and it even transferred stuff I had bought on my last LAST 360! Good times. I did a memory stick transfer of my stuff (rather than the transfer cable) and it was also easy as pie, and I'm no techno gubbin.

Can you give more detail on how you did the transfer? I am sorely tempted to upgrade and have already saved up enough cash but my main concerns are:
1) is it really very quiet?
2) how do I transfer my purchased content without buying a cable, or if I did buy the cable how do I transfer it with that?

My 360 is very noisy and it irritates me to use it. Last night I purchased Black (X Box original after reading an article on this site) and found it has no subtitles and loads of dialogue. I couldn't make out a word of the dialogue as the X Box 360 was drowning it out and I couldn't ramp up the volume for waking up people. I shouldn't have to have my tv ridiculously loud to play a game anyway.

Re: New 360 Model...

Right, I'm not convinced the new xbox 360 is whisper quiet but I'll admit it is quieter. I had an Elite before and it wasn't loud by any means.

The transfer was easy, you put a decent sized mem stick in your 360 (I used an 8gb kingston) and go to setting>memory>portable device (or something like that). It'll ask are you sure you want to format it and you do. It then freaks you out by saying 'ooooohh this isn't a microsoft stick, it might not be good enough' but that's bollocks - it worked fine for me. Then its just a case of copy/move copy/move etc, it's a lot easier if you have both 360's set up. It took me 3 transfers - job done. I'd advise just deleting installed games, it's just easier to re-install them on the new 360.

Once the transfer is complete (you'll know because there wont be anything left on your old 360) you go to http://www.xbox.com/en-us/support/systemuse/xbox360/licensemigration/default.htm and follow the instructions carefully. I must admit I had to re-read a few bits but within and hour or 2 it was dones.

Thanks Koopa, especially for the link.

Can you compare the loudness to any other console? Is it quieter than a Dreamcast?

Re: New 360 Model...

I got one of the new XBox 360 S models earlier this week and am very happy with it. It is probably as quiet as the Wii so I can actually use it in the evenings without waking anyone up.

My only problem was that I couldn't transfer some of my downloaded content. In particular, I had a game of KOTOR (Knights Of The Old Republic - an original XBox game) going and I had downloaded the free expansion pack. I wasn't allowed to transfer this expansion to my new 360, and Microsoft have removed all original XBox stuff from XBox Live, so I cannot continue my game as it won't let me start it while the expansion is missing.

Re: New 360 Model...

I think the S model would look a lot better under my TV than the previous white models. Being white makes the console look out of place next to the TV, SKY HD box and PS3. Still not go one at this point, but can see getting one in the next few months.
