| Gaming Disapointment's? |
|
Isn't it frustrating when we spend our money, time & talent's on certain games discover to sooner or later that it was all one big con? It is shocking, it is horrific, leaving us completely cold & deflated after building up our entheusiasm over a period of sometimes hours, days and weeks... The feeling hit me hard when I was about 13/14 years old. I had Shinobi bought me for my birthday, I even had to resign to skiving off school (which became too much of a habit a few years later (for computer/console/arcade games & cigarettes/alcohol - in excess, create the most perfect amalgam). I played the game for ages, time & time again upon my black & white portable television. My friend from school (yep, Target; Renegade mate) asked my to "bring the Sega over tonight Johnboy", I compied. We played through various games most memorably concluding in an epic penalty shoot-out on World Soccer. Until... I asked if I could have a run through my latest game, Shinobi... My mate was impressed as was I, at the graphics (Maryin Monroe moment and knee deep water in where divers jump in and out of(?) being rather cool, also) and thereafter egged me on in my quest to dethrone the infamous criminal leaders 'Ring of Five'... I did, disposing of Ken-Oh, the Blue Turtle, the forever awkward Mandara, the laughable Lobster and ultimately, the tri-skilled Masked Ninja (1st - electricuting, leaping, kicking & punching, 2nd - tornado-like and 3rd) running). Now as my friend had a color TV, this was a new kind of experience for me, adding a different dimension to the game, drawing me completely in; tunnel vision comes to mind? My friend patting me on my back and yelling "You got him man, you got him!" I finally let the last phase of the Masked Ninja have it, pinning the sneaky crim to the wall of his palace until he was defeated. YEAHHHHH's, High-Five's and pure relief ensued. The screen faded into darkness... then we both waited what seemed like ages for a picture two with a classic peice of text describing how the world was now a safer place after our ninja (also FBI agent Joe Musashi) had seen off the bad guys... The screen presented us with the two harshest words in Video Game History... 'GAME OVER'. My friend looked at me and I looked at him with the same forlorn (yet disgusted) look. We let out a sigh of disappointment opened a can of shandy, put Star Wars on and never spoke about Shinobi again. |

Oh yes. I know just how you feel We wasted so much money and time on games to end up with the classic "The End" or "Game Over Over" messages.
Bad enough when it says congratulations and then the end, but some games said the end as soon as the last hit was in the boss. Argh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
