Dr David Doak Deaths

After reviewing the footage from the last Retro Fusion event it was a concern for me to learn that so many people have taken up the rather disturbing pastime of killing Dr David Doak in Goldeneye simply for fun and enjoyment. It seems that they can let off steam from their daily grind by either riddiling him with bullets (the more the better) or sending him diving through the air (the further the better) because of a mine they've planted beneath his feet which they've just detonated.

This is all despite his character clearly being painted as a 'good guy', with these executions taking place while he is actually trying to help the gamer. I have on film a famous coder from the 90's (who refuses to be named but for the purpose of this blog will simply be named 'ponytailed, leather jacketed, red wine drinking man') admitting he has been doing this 5 times a day for over 10 years now and he can't help himself.

Now David (or Dave as he's known to his closest friends) is a very good friend of mine and I can honestly say that I have never abused his or Rare's or even your trust (fellow gamers) by blasting him to pieces or shooting him in the face more than three or four times. I have to say that when I learned this was going on it really bothered me, I had to take several long walks and even read a copy of 'Your Computer' just to calm down.

What concerns me is with all this talk of COD airport shootings in modern games, this violence is being carried out a million times worse with these regular slayings of my dearest friend.

I decided to call Dave up and explain to him exactly what was and is still going on to his likeness in cyberspace, what he said to me was both insightful, remarkably clever and in a way strangely haunting...

"Hi this is Dave Doak, I'm not in right now, try me on the mobile otherwise just wait for the tone and leave me a message and I'll call you back...laters!"

In light of this I have decided to do a short film highlighting how horrific these sequences are, so I therefore ask you all out there...you sick b*stards... to detail, to recount some of your Doak Death Scenarios for me to recreate, in the hope that when you watch the film back you'll realise what a horrid hobby you've been practising and swtich to something clean and innocent like Hitman as soon as possible...and leave poor Dave alone!

Until next time...
