Emulation or Real?

Hi All,

Great site, I'm glad Retro Fusion has found a home, thank you to boyo and all involved !

I have a few wardrobes of consoles, computers and games etc,  I've sold some and I am down to the items I really don't want to sell, however with a couple of young kids I need the space.

So my dilema is to sell and emulate or keep them for the "I'll play them one day",  I know nothing beats the real thing and emulation can be hit and miss,  what I wanted to know if you folk battle with this problem too?

Re: Emulation or Real?

I say keep them. You have already got your collection down to the ones that didn't want to lose, and if you get rid of any of them it will nag at you until you when you see another for sale until you buy it again.

Emulation is great for convenience and trying out those games you never bought, but unpacking, setting up and playing the original hardware is a more fun experience.

I also think your children will be more likely to be interested in the old stuff with the original hardware rather than showing them it on emulation, so you could think of it as saving it for them.

Yeah, the amount of stuff I have sure does cause problems with the space for me!  However I prefer the real thing a million times more than emulation

I have 11 & 12 year olds.  They were confused when I showed them a 12" vinyl single (very confused in fact) and would absolutely baulk at the idea of waiting 10 minutes before playing a game!

However, took them to the Gadget Show Live event in Birmingham recently and played for over half an hour on a Binatone 4 game system i.e. football, tennis, squash etc.  They loved it, especially the paddles!
