Koop's Movie Musings

Have been watching a lot of recent films since getting my PS3 earlier this year (they accidently seem to fall onto my memory card LOL). I'll list my thoughts just in case anyone gives a rat's ass or maybe you just fancy a film but can't decide what to watch.

The Wolfman - I was originally excited about this, Benicio Del Cornetto seemed a great choice as the lead, he already looks like some Wolfbloke. Unfortunatley it's not that great, the effects are substandard (for this day and age) and Sir Anthony Hopkins hams it up wildly LOL but IS quiet watchable in a comedy way. The story was flat and all but Hopkins and Del Cornetto were bog standard characters. However if you like gothic horror and enjoyed the 1990's Dracula remake (also starring Hopkins) you may well enjoy this, it nails the gothic look really well.

The Road - Great film, slow and character based but very engrossing. I haven't read the book but I have it on good authority that it's a pretty decent attempt at it.

The Book of Eli - See above but make it a popcorn movie LOL that is a little harsh, it's twist wasn't as transparent as I thought it would be. Also has an IMMENSE Fallout3 feel to the way it was filmed. Having watched this and The Road I think that a proper film version of Fallout3 could totally rock (but wouldn't because of the game to movie curse).

Solomon Kane - If you liked Van Helsing, you'll like this. Slightly darker than VH but still pretty popcorn.

Kick Ass - Ha ha ha! proper ace! that is all.

Shutter Island - Will let you know soon, it's at 80%

Re: Koop's Movie Musings

Well I saw Kick Ass in the cinema with my Mrs when it was launched and thought it was bloody brilliant. Not heard of any other films in that list Koops - next one I would like to watch is Robin Hood, but I read somewhere the critics panned it.

Started watching "Nine" last night. Talk about a chick flick - bit like Moulen Rogue or that Abba sing along movie. Not one for the boys!

I need to get round to watching 'The Road' at some point and will probably tap Mrs Von for a loan of her LoveFilm account to get hold of 'Book of Eli' as well.

I'm still not sure about Solomon Kane as a couple of folks I know slagged it off and a couple more said it was ok. Maybe if I need a B-movie fix. At the moment I'm more interested in when 'Jonah Hex' will be released.

Movies I have 'aquired' recently and watched:

Splice (am watching this tonight and am hoping it's good)
Legion - Angels with guns? very BAD film indeed
Black Death - again one of those dodge british feeling films about the plague and witch stuff - average to poor
Shutter Island - not decided, average to slightly above average?well shot and set but the story is a little average
The proposal - Sandra Bullock chix flix but I did actually laugh a bit
Moon - a good film but not as good as I'd hoped

The Expendables - like being back in the 80's! Great film, no story, big guns, we want MORE! This and the A Team are the best action movies in YEARS!

Re: Koop's Movie Musings

Have recently watched:

Repo Men - pretty good actioner, a bit different, deffo worth a look
Centurion - meh meh meh to poor (after all it was done by the same bloke that did the awful Dog Soldiers)
Ironman2 - meh meh meh again Hollywood cramming too much into one film (pointless mini roles for other superheroes), it was more like a big trailer for the upcoming Avangers movie. Deffo not as good as the first (which I thought was ace)
