Hey, just been rating some stuff on the site and decided to upload a few pics..but have nowhere to put them! I've scanned a few pages of some old comics (a couple of stories and some old adverts that bring the memories flooding back!)....stuff like Buster, Whizzer & Chips, Oink and the like...
Any chance of sticking a retro comics category up in the screens section, so I can upload them there? Pwetty pwease!?!?! Old comics play as big a part in the remembrance of my youth as cartoons and games do, and I'm sure it'll be the same for others...
Funnily enough, I only mentioned 'Scream' in one of my posts yesterday... Does anyone remember that publication? There were only fifteen issue's, plus a couple of 'specials'. Some really good stories in that comic.
Oh! My brother was just in charge of a fan issue of Scream last Halloween, put together by him with the chaps and chapesses at Scream fan site, Back from the Depths! Check it out if you're interested....
Although I've just tried to submit, and the first time I accidentally pressed enter, sending nothing...(sorry)...and the second time it informed me the file was too large...(sorry again)...
As a kid I used to have the Beano and Dandy every week. As I got older I used to read Commando and Eagle. Still have the urge now to subscribe to the Beano comic when I see the gift pack in boots.
Also used to have another comic with "Limp Along Leslie" in it. But I can't think of the name of that comic at the moment.
Even better is 'Classics From The Comics'. This is published by D.C Thompson on a monthly basis and contains reprinted material from Beano, Dandy, Sparky, Topper, Nutty, Cracker, Buzz and Beezer along with the occasional strip from Victor, Wizard and Hotspur. It costs £2 a month and is well worth it. I have been buying it for the last ten years and have introduced the younger members of the family to it in an attempt to educate them as to what proper comics are
I also still have a subscription to Commando too and have recently been picking up some of the reprints of 2000AD strips.
For those of us who grew up reading war comics in the 1970s there are a number of reprints due out over the next year or so. Johnny Red and Darkies Mob from Battle are due in the next few months with Rat Pack, Major Eazy and a second Battle comic anthology, 'The Best of Land Battle' (a companion to 'The Best of Battle' already published) to follow.
There are already a number of Commando collections available along with War Picture Library, Battle Picture Library and Air Ace Picture Library. If you are a fan of obscure British science fiction strips there was a 10 story collection of 'Rick Random Space Detective' published a couple of years ago (personally I'm hoping they do a Jet Ace Logan one too).
