28 INCH MONSTER TABLETOP
A monster of a tabletop arcade machine!

Posted by boyo on Aug 18, 2010 20:06 (Aug 18, 2010 20:06)

A little while ago I stumbled upon a 28" monitor that was being thrown in the dump by a local train station. These used to be the monitors that were used to report arrivals and departures and actually housed a Pentium 3 PC inside the monitor casing itself.

With the advent of LCD screens, these monitors, and there were about 10 of them, were gathering dust in the Station store room.

So what better way of making use of one of these monsters than create a MAME table top cabinet. The pictures speak for themselves - the monitor is huge, the arcade machine is single player and an I-pac connected to a laptop running MAME is at the heart of the experience.

Check out the gallery here for more images.

If you had one more you could make a vertical version of the cabinet... I love vertical scrolling shoot'em up, and I'm figuring how fun could be playing one on such a big screen... (^_^U)
