R-TYPE OUT NOW ON IPHONE
Bydo bashing blaster comes to the intergalactic Apple handheld in an arcade perfect port.

Posted by Spanner on Aug 26, 2010 08:40 (Aug 26, 2010 08:40)

I recall hearing about an R-Type port for iPhone yonks ago - last November, I think it was - but the developer (DotEmu) suddenly seemed to go quiet on the subject.

The reason for its silence could be explained by the fact that EA Mobile has evidently picked up the game for publishing on the App Store, which is probably no bad thing.
R-Type on iPhone promises a pixel perfect recreation of Irem's classic shoot-'em-up, recognised as one of the hardest games of all time. But that didn't change the fact that R-Type revolutionised arcade space shooters, thanks in most part to its beautifully imaginative use of the indestructible Force weapon and epic level designs.

The Apple adaptation of R-Type features the expected on-screen D-pad controls, which are never all that great, but a necessary evil in the touchscreen age. There's also the option for tilt controls, which might help matters out a bit - we shall see.

Well, what are you waiting for? Blast off and strike the evil Bydo Empire!
