The Chartered Institute for IT is preparing to launch as film campaign designed to raise the profile of the IT industry, and has chosen one of Retro Fusion's all-time heroes and staunch Thatcherite, Sir Clive Sinclair (hallowed be his name) as the focus of one of its films.
Of all people, Phil Tufnell has been selected to host the short film telling Sir Clive's sensational story as the man who brought computers into the living rooms of Britain.
“We want to celebrate the achievements of these Information Pioneers and demonstrate their contribution to today’s Information Society," says Elizabeth Sparrow, president of the Chartered Institute for IT. "Everyone should visit the Information Pioneer campaign website and join in the debate on who should be the greatest Information Pioneer of all time, vote for their favourite pioneer and share their favourite film with their friends and colleagues.”
The ex-England cricketer will deliver a heart-felt refrain depicting (quite rightly) Sir Clive Sinclair as the father of gaming, who made computers affordable to the masses at £99.95 each in 1979 with the ZX80. In 1982 the iconic ZX Spectrum was launched complete with sound and eight colours, which marked the birth of the UK computer gaming industry.
The short film is set to go live over on the BCS website on May 27th, so mark the date in your diary and get ready to cast a vote that actually counts for something. Here's a link: http://pioneers.bcs.org/2010/5/12/sir-clive-sinclair
@Gizmo1990 - Thanks! We wanted to get people who were passionate about the pioneers to talk about why it is that they admire them, rather than having the pioneers themselves in the videos. We're hoping that Sir Clive will have something to say about the campaign soon though as he's been in touch... I'll keep you posted!
Nice little doc. But tbh I was expecting an interview with the great man himself at the very least. That's what I really want to see, Clives thoughts and musing on the days back then. Ps, whoever did the zx80 cgi should be shot! ;-)
This news is greatness of the highest magnitude!! I shall be sure to watch the video on my iphone from the hallowed seat of my Sinclair C5.... sweeeetahhh!!
