A short film put together by aspiring filmmaker Patrick Jean caught the attention of Edgar Wright recently (the director of Spaced, Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz) who set the YouTube vid on fire using the power of Twitter.
The film uses footage of New York as a backdrop, and blends it with spectacular renditions of pixelated, CGI video game characters of yesteryear. The interwebs have been going nuts of the film (and quite rightly), and it's now been announced that Pixels has been optioned by Adam Sandler's Happy Madison Productions or a big screen feature film adaptation.
Exactly what shape this adaptation will take is yet to be revealed, as it's still early days and a script hasn't actually been drafted. But casting a quick glance over the original short promises something that will get the retro gaming community undeniably wet, and make them consider going back to the cinema as soon as the Prince of Persia movie has fallen to its inevitable death.
Here's the original Pixels short film, while you're waiting for the box office release. (Note the awesome homage to Ocean in the opening credits).
