Apparently the Atari 2600's Haunted House is considered one of the first ever examples of the horror/survival genre, and we love a good scare at Retro Fusion. So it's great to hear that the spooky eyes will now be casting their terrifying gaze over Xbox Live Arcade, Wii and PC download this autumn as Atari celebrate's the game's 30th anniversary with a complete revamp and re-release.
The game has recast you as the granchildren of the original character who braved Graves Mansion 30 years ago (not quite sure those age figures quite add up, but anyway). Your task will be to find four missing pieces of a magical urn scattered throughout the creepy mansion.
“The glowing eyes and mysterious urn of Haunted House still resonates with gamers who made the original franchise a blockbuster hit,” says Atari president Jim Wilson. “Atari looks forward to introducing a new generation of gamers to the fun and suspense of Graves Mansion and bringing families together with the magic that is Haunted House.”
You can have a shuftie at the original in the video below, and the all new version (check it out here) should be with us by September on the digital download platforms.
