As the years tick by at a rate of knots, it becomes increasingly reasonable to consider the PlayStation as a retro platform. Which is terribly convenient this morning, as it means I can tell you the exciting news about the classic platforming franchise Oddworld making its return.
The original developer Oddworld Inhabitants has apparently teamed up with Just Add Water to create "multiple projects across multiple platforms", and promises that all your favourite Oddworld characters will be included. And that goes for the original series creator Lorne Lanning.
No further details have been released about what form these new Oddworld games will take, or which platforms they'll be appearing on. My guess would be the digital download platforms, such as XBLA, PSN and WiiWare, but no developer these days is going to overlook the likes of the iPhone and iPad, so you can bet Mudos will be bouncing across the App Store, too.
He might even make an appearance on the 3DS in full spectroscopic splendour, I suppose...
Give us your Oddworld memories and hopes in the comments below.
I really liked the original and got quite far but had to give up. I got to a bit where you just had to jump a gap and I simply couldn't do it - I must have tried a hundred times. I looked at GameFAQs and the walkthrough simply said something like 'jump over the gap then...' so that was no help. It seemed as though the bit I couldn't do was not something that should be a problem for anyone and is fairly simple so I was very confused as to why I couldn't do it. Unrelated but I also had a similar problem that forced me to stop playing Chrono Cross mid way through.
I've got all four games, though I've not quite got round to playing the latter two. Looking forward to seeing where they take this though. If they go 3DS, all they need next is smell technology for the full Oddworld effect.
