Know, O Prince, that in the year 2011 Conan shall come hither, and tread the jewelled thrones of the multiplex cinema beneath his sandalled feet.

Although retro gaming is still booming, there are lots of other nostalgic entertainment avenues looking to capture those valuable, 'stuck-in-the-past' audiences. And with the fantasy genre embarking on a cinematic resurgence, it's no wonder that a new Conan film is well under way.
Robert E. Howard made his way back to the big screen recently in the critically acclaimed Solomon Kane (which I rather enjoyed, yes I did), but any new attempt to bring the black-haired, sullen-eyed, sword-in-hand Cimmerian back to the cinema is really going to have to shine.
Arnie might not be known as the world's most accomplished Thespian, but he excelled as the reaver from the north in the 1982 epic Conan the Barbarian, and again two years later in Conan the Destroyer (also starring Pat Roach). Now the first images of his replacement Jason Momoa have been released, and while he's decidedly sleeker than the previous Conan, he appears to fit the bill quite well. Looks like a slightly younger Cimmerian to me, but that's still a hell of a sword on his hip. So long as he deliver those gigantic melancholies and gigantic mirth along with that slightly petulant grimace seen above, I'll be first in line on Orange Wednesday when Conan hits the cinemas next year.
What do you think? Does this guy fill Arnie's epic sandals?
