To balance against the top 50 Spectrum games video shown on the site a few days ago,I thought I would put together a top 10 of the 64's best games. This video is quite long but does show some of the gameplay in each of the games.
ooooooh! Ya cheeky git. You are just trying to re-start that old war (that never ended)..... Must look into doing one of these - just need to find out how to do it!
Hi Lightwave - thanks for joing and good post. I was trying to be a bit controversial just to provoke a response. Really appreciate you taking the effort.
Darn tootin there's more than 10... There was Elite which needs no introduction I'm sure, then a whole slew of games from the mind of Andrew Braybrook for a company called Hewson. Games like Uridium, a top down shooter, Paradroid another shooter but with a twist of taking over robots onboard a rogue spacecraft, Morpheus, a shooter with massive levels of customisation.
Then there's the classic Wizball, from Ocean, a game you must have heard of as it eventually ended up on the Speccy. There's The Sentinel, a game which was like 3d chess but you were the playing piece. Th. on the cheap end there was Thrust, which was a Luna Lander style gravity flying game. Also don't forget the Lucasarts games such as Rescue on Fractalus, The Eidolon, Koronis Rift, and at least one Indy point and click adventure.
Other classic C64 games included Marble Madness, The Last Ninja series, . Games from a company called Thalamus who were a spin off from the publisher that produced Crash and Zzap64. These games were mainly shooters, but well executed shooters Sanxion and Delta both also had rocking soundtracks. Also there was the puzzle game hey produced called Quedex, which gave ou all manner of inertia based challenes. Speaking of Inertia you also had a superb game called e-motion. , which was a real mind blower. With you acting as a pilot moving molecules around to make them collide together and clear a level. Anyway I could add more but I'm typing ts on my iPad and it doesn't seem to like this text enters field and I can't see half of what I'm typing or it's auto correcting. But sufficed to say there is a heck of a lot more c64 games out there than those ones in your video which IMHO was not the greatest selection of c64 games...
