NAMCO PACKAGES UP ITS RETRO TITLES INTO A FREE IPHONE APP
Namco Games Portal promises a (lite) arcade in your pocket.

Posted by Spanner on Jul 30, 2010 09:00 (Jul 30, 2010 09:00)

As Apple reluctantly, and very slowly, releases its vice-like grip on the App Store, developers are finding new and exciting ways of packaging their iPhone, iPod touch and iPad products.

The latest to test out new retro trends is Namco, which has just released its free Games Portal app. The idea is that you download this one quick freebie, and access the arcade stalwart's catalogue from within the app. Kinda like having an arcade in your pocket, I suppose.

The portal has launched with lite versions of Pac-Man, Galaga, Dig Dug, Time Crisis Strike and Ace Combat XI: Skies of Incursion (this latter one's not too retro, so you might want to ignore that) and promises to add more trial versions as the app grows.

Quite a nice way of gathering all those arcade classics under one neat, retro iPhone banner, really. Check it out.
