My best friend in college was my Commodore Amiga. I loved that machine and wherever I went it would follow. Summer, Easter and Christmas breaks were always times well spent playing the latest games and pumping out stereo demo music out of my Panasonic separate amplifier and speaker set-up.
I first had an Amiga 500 but as soon as the Amiga 1200 landed, I was first in the queue to get one of these gorgeous looking machines.
Now 20 years or so later I have picked up an Amiga 1200 off E-bay for £35. Bargain! Whilst I was nosing around the Amiga auctions I also saw a device for sale for the 1200 that boasted static disk technology containing 2,600 Amiga games and public domain demos. Plug it into the Amiga 1200 hard disk connector inside the machine and when booted a few directories are displayed on the desktop that house the games you remember playing, and all the others you could not afford!
So I bought one of those also, which was in fact more expensive than the cost of the Amiga itself.
The Amiga and disk arrived yesterday and as I soon as I got home from work I set the whole rig up - installation was pretty easy and ended up very much like the image above.
Suffice to say, I had a pretty good evening playing the games I remember having - which I am honest were not that many in the whole scheme of things.
With 2,600 games to choose from, which are the games I should be homing in on? I need your help.
The Chaos Engine, Turrican 3, Arabian Nights, Lionheart... But I think those are A500 games. I mean, playing them on an Amiga 1200 adds no improvement...
